Smile Mini Membership !

Spotted this 1935 Honorary Membership card for the Bordeaux branch , it arrived and is smaller (6.5x5 cm) than any of the other membership cards (9x6 cm) I have.

Amazing something like that survived, as I can’t imagine it would have being looked upon favourably for the holder if it had been found by the occupying forces during the war that followed.

Cheers……John

Exclamation Women's Section Award !

Spotted this poppy brooch on eBay and put it on my "watch list" to see how much it goes for as I already have one.

It is listed for £480.00 + postage !
Got a 'sellers offer' of £450.00 but don't think I'll accept .

Although not a British Legion brooch I think the company did produce badges for the British Legion as the design is very similar.

Thumbs up British Legion Taxi School

By the time it closed its doors in 1995 over 5,000 men had passed the famous Knowledgeand the stringent driving test to become a London cab driver.
The figure above was taken from the Julie Summers book "We Are Legion" .

I have just got hold of an October 1978 copy of the "Taxi Gazette" which includes an article about the "Golden Jubilee" of the training school. The article points out that they were also celebrating the fact that it "had the distinction of seeing the school celebrate its 5000th trainee."

So by 1995 , when they closed , the number could 'possibly' have been between 6000-7000.

Finally got hold of the E.P. "puffbox" (unfortunately no puff ! ) , it is not as deep as the brass one (photo 1) and has an inner 'lip' to stop the powder splilling out.

I now only need a couple of items , Sweet Tray & Match Cover , to complete the set.
