Default Irvin paratrooper

Good day. I just bought a British 1961 singer vogue car and on the seatbelts is a cymbal. Can someone give me more information on this picture?E71AF4AE-0994-4438-98E0-EC2BD7A08F55.jpg

William, it looks like the wings the Irvin Company gave to newly qualified Paras back in the day. Search on here or google and you'll be able to read about them. Why its stuck on a seat belt I cannot guess.

Irvin, being makers of webbing parachute harnesses, and later nylon harnesses, also made belts for the car and aviation industry.

I know nothing much about cars but find it interesting that a car of that age is fitted with seat belts.

It may be evidence of some early rallying use.

Probably, belts weren't a legal requirement for use on the roads back then and as far as I know a vehicle of that vintage is still exempt.

Irvin were prolific seat belt manufacturers in the 50's & 60's as well as making more exotic harnesses. They made quality belts that were popular 7 fairly expensive.

The Winged Irvin badge is just their trademark, used on all their gear.

Google Irvin seatbelts on ebay for other examples.
