Mike,
the only black on red I know of was the Apprentices but that I have only seen on the 'regular' shape badge, not round. Chris |

It's an appointment badge for a WOI"Conductor" isn't it, although I don't know what the colours signify.

Possibly a Canadian badge they did follow us for a while.
I doubt that Apprentices, Gurkhas or the KRRC., would have had a Conductor or Master Gunner Class 1. Marc

Further to earlier post.
The badge is 52mm in diameter so mess dress sized with a white hessian type backing. |

Rule out Canadian. The only conductor appointments in the Canadian army were in the RCOC and RCASC. Neither wore red on black rank badges.

I found some other versions of this patch on eBay also listed as "Conductor" badges. Beyond that I have no idea what it is.

Thanks Bill, the plot thickens or rather the mystery deepens.

Mike, all I've got is this - stating the bleeding obvious, which has the red felt backing.
Willam may well be your man to ask, he was an avid WO.1 rank badge collector at one time. He has an extensive collection. |
