Default Royal College of Surgeons OTC Ireland

Kudos to the person, hopefully a member, who won the Royal College of Surgeons OTC badge on eBay. Mentioned but not illustrated in KK. Perhaps due to its rarity even they didn't have one to photograph.

Anyway, here it is for interest and possible comment.

The prices were eye watering on some of those badges. There were some Junior Div OTC ones that went for far more than a normal price. Possibly bidding fever? Notts OTC went for £162 which is more than 4 times what i paid for mine. The post 1950 Abderdeen one went for £83 when the 'book' price is normally £30-40.

Absolutely. Though it did cross my mind that you might have won it.

The seller also has a slidered officer's Royal Sussex Regiment badge which I believe is from the Birmingham Mint collection receiving a lot of what I would consider unprecedented attention for a replica. Bidding fever indeed!
Cheers

Absolutely no way I would pay £500 for a badge! That price takes all the fun out of collecting. The Oxford Engineers was a nice badge but again very expensive.

I've often heard mention of this alleged "book". I don't believe it exists as such. What someone is willing to pay for a badge is totally subjective. What it's worth is what someone is willing to pay on a given day. There are frequent examples of these price/hammer fluctuations on an almost daily basis both on the internet and in auction houses. It's nothing unusual at all.

Dave.
