Default K&K Missing OTCs

These school OTCs are shown as being in existance in 1939 but there is no entry in K&K for them. Does anyone know which cap badge they wore as an OTC/JTC?

Bishop Vesey's Grammar Sch (Sutton Coalfield) _ RWarcs
Christ College Brecon - SWB
Grimsby Municipal College Own OTC design then later on Lincolnshire regt
Kings College (Rochester) - K&K 2600
LLandovery College - SWB
Sherborne School (Dorset) _ Dorsetshires
West Buckland Sch (Barnstaple) Devonshires

Default K&K Missing OTC

Grimsby OTC had their own badge. If I can unpack mine later I'l scan it. Likewise, Gt Yarmouth and Cadet Norfolk Artillery both had their own but are not pictured.
A mystery to me is a badge that someone paid a fortune for at Bosley's: Lincoln School Cadet Corps. I have never found a record of a school by that name.

Alan,Bishop Veseys wore their own cap badge.

If you are looking for an image, there is a man i know who did have a cap badge,he may still have it as he did serve in the otc there.

Default Grimsby OTC

Finally I found one I just received this badge.

It is Grimsby OTC and described as Grimsby School in K&K. I suspect that the school and Grimsby Municipal College in the 1911 PQ is one and the same. The college later became Wintringham Grammar School.

I have only ever seen one of these before so it was a good find.

Default Llladovery College

A picture from the Old Llandoverians which clearly shows the SWB cap badge in use by the School cadets. The School is in Carmarthenshire so SWB was the local regt.

Default Bishop Vesey's

Dix Noonan auctions recently sold a collection of OTC badges and matching S/Ts. The Bishop Vesy's S/T was paired with a RWarcs cap badge.

However by 1940 (OTC now dissolved in favour of JTCs) Bishop Vesey's Grammar School Cadet Corps is affiliated to the Royal Artillery according to the Army list of that year.

Default Christ College Brecon

'1937 saw the re-establishment of the Cadet Corps at the College as part of the Junior division of the Officer Training Corps. It consisted of an Office Establishment of two platoons and was commanded by Captain I.M. Powell (O.B.). Captain Powell was previously adjutant of 6th (Glamorgan) Battalion The Welch Regiment (T.A.). He was commissioned into the Welch Regiment on 16th August 1916 and served in France and Belgium between 21st September 1916 and 8th September 1918. His son Dr. Peter Powell is a former governor of the College and his great-grandson was also in the College C.C.F. They were badged S.W.B. and remained so until the amalgamation when they rebadged Royal Regiment of Wales.'

This is from the School CCF history which definitely records that the SWB badge was used when it was an OTC from 1937-40 and afterwards a JTC.

Christ College Brecon OTC was formed in 1937 by Army Order 155

The list so far of OTCs that are absent from K&K are:

Bradford Grammar School. An example of the badge is shown in Keith Rawlings' book. As yet I cannot confirm the date of use.
Haileybury School Junior Cadets
Oakham School OTC first pattern cap badge 1910-28.
Royal Naval School Eltham which closed in 1910.
St. Edward's School Oxford - 2 versions exist that predate the one shown in K&K
Worksop OTC - shield version badge.

Lincoln Grammar School Cadet Corps ran from 1902 until c1908. It was revived in 1916 affiliated to 4th TF Lince until 1924.

I have had this "set" of Grimsby related badges in my possession for more years than I care to remember. I think the centre badge is that which sold at Bosleys. Any suggestions as to what it actually may be, would be gratefully received. I don't think it is a collar badge, much too large as can be seen with the collars alongside.

Dave

That badge is for Grimsby Municipal Tramways.

Looking at Bosleys' one here http://www.mycommissionbid.com/bid/viewitem.php?id=307 it also matches the tramways badge shown and the one on the conductors' caps.

You can see the photos of it in use the by tram conductors here:

Many thanks Alan. Someone has obviously paid a great deal of cash for a tramways badge then!

Dave, the two small Grimsby Tramways badges do go with the cap badge but they are not collar badges, they are epaulette badges.

I have just received a school photo from 1942 from Bishop Veseys' archivist. The various cadets are in BD and pre war tunics with the BD wearers' side caps in plain view with RWarcs antelopes and the scroll while those cadets still in pre war tunics have RWarcs collars and the school S/Ts'. Quite conclusive.
