Default Rhodesian Buttons

Hello All. Anyone collecting Rhodesian Buttons on here please?

I have a collection of around 300 different types, based on different unit, design, material, size, maker - I am working on a document on Rhodesian Buttons to issue out to fellow collectors and I am interested in seeing what other buttons people might have, esp the rarer ones like BSA Co, BSA Co Police, Rhodesia Mounted Police, Rhodesia Horse, etc.

I am also after any documented info on any Rhodesian buttons please. I have Radford's book which is some help as is Dudley Wall's book.

Photos below of my BSAP and associated collection

Many thanks Wayne

Hi Wayne

That's an impressive BSAP button collection, to say the least!

I have a few nice early Rhodesian buttons in my collection. I'm not at home so can't check but from memory I have Rhodesia Horse, Southern Rhodesia Vols, the BSA Company button, I think also Rhodesia Mounted Police and maybe a few others.

Hi David, nice collection, please can you send over a photo of them when you get back, together with sizes and makers marks. I can then check my notes and see what needs to be added to the details. Regards Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Nice collection - well done!

I'm not a button collector but it's impressive to see such a collection.

Thanks for sharing.

Roy.

Default Rhodesian Buttons

Hi Wayne

Here they are as promised, not many but some nice ones though. Where I've put "crest" I mean the lion holding tusk crest.

British South Africa Co - "BSAC"/coat of arms. (medium/large, brass). (BM = Buttons Limited).

Rhodesia Horse - crest within circlet & title. (large, brass). (BM = Fast Shanks).

Rhodesia Horse - (small) (all other details same as above).

Rhodesia Mounted Police - crest surrounded by title. (medium/large, brass). (BM = Hobson & Sons, Lexington.......)

Southern Rhodesia Volunteers - crest/"S.R.V." (small, brass). (BM = Superb Quality).

Southern Rhodesia Staff Corps or Royal Rhodesia Regiment (?) -- KC/crest/scroll & "Rhodesia". (large, flat, silver plate). (BM = Firmin London).

Northern Rhodesia Regiment - bird/scroll & motto. (large, brass). (BM = Firmin & Sons Ltd, London),

British South Africa Police - "B.S.A."/crest/"Police". (small, brass). (no backmark).

British South Africa Police - KC/charging lion. (large, gilt). (BM = Firmin London).

British South Africa Police - charging lion. (large, gold anodised) (BM = Tool & Mould, Salisbury).

British South Africa Police - (small), (all other details same as above).

Hope this helps!

David

Default BSAC anodised button

Here is a better scan of a BSAC button, posted in another tread.
Back reads "Buttons Ltd B'ham, trade <crossed swords> mark"
I am putting these two images in the public domain, free to use on and off this forum.
