That certainly sounds rather more dignified, as befits a Royal!

I have two to add when I have time to take some pictures, a very dark blue on a Royal Fusiliers officers SD from WWII and a Red/white/green twisted example on a 50's Welch regiment BD.

Great thread and good to see all the useful info being posted.

Default Lanyards

When I started this thread last week I said I did not collect lanyards but had eleven amongst my collection. At War and Peace today I obtained another 26!
I have positively identified about half of them!

Will photograph and post in due course in an album.

Hello Tim
Well done on all the hard work with this ... and the recent acquisitions! I bet they did not cost a fortune - yet they are a fascinating subject. Looking forward to further images on this most informative thread!
Regards
Mike

Paul

It is amazing how your original thread:

has developed into this fascinating resource ... It illustrates all the best qualities of the Forum.

Thanks

The olive and green one is a Airborne Signals lanyard worn by 216 Sig Sqn on FAD.

Alan,
Thanks, also worn i believe by previous Royal Signals units supporting Airborne Formation HQs (16 Para Bde, 5 Airborne Bde) according to the earlier Material Regulations that I have.

Strangely in the 2004 JSP it is only shown for 47 Signal Regiment (V). See last entry on post 12 in this thread.

I came across a posting below - which you may feel relevant to this thread. It concerns a RN Commando battledress. I hope all parties agree it is beneficial to link the two postings here.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...109#post221109

Also thanks to Irv
For the link to the RM Historical Society Site for a record of post war Royal Marine Lanyards.

http://www.rmhistorical.com/images/Lanyards.pdf

I have a rather dated, but consistent, note of the following:

40 (RM) Cdo - Sky Blue
41 (RM) Cdo - Yellow
42 (RM) Cdo - White
43 (RM) Cdo - Red and Gold - disbanded 1969
45 (RM) Cdo - Red
3 Cdo Brigade - Green
RM Logistics - Dark Blue

It is noteworthy that one history of 40 Commando (by Major JC Beadle MBE MC RM) is called 'The Light Blue Lanyard'. This covers 50 years service having joined the Corps in 1941 and serving with 40 (RM) Cdo from its creation in February 1942.

Note - I also believe that New Members passing out as 'The Kings Squad' also wear a distinctive white lanyard on the right shoulder.
Officers can be found wearing a navy blue whistle lanyard also on the right shoulder.

Mike

Default Lanyards ww2 SAS

Does anyone have a ww2 SAS lanyard? I believe 1stSAS wore as from 1944 a dark blue lanyard. Not sure if 2ndSAS did the same.

Cheers,
JB
