Default Royal Mail won't post to Australia

I just bought a badge from a well known Ebay vendor in UK, and he has just told me that Royal Mail is not accepting international postage. Does this mean that the British economy is on the point of collapse? Will Ebay sales and UK exports grind to a halt?

Apparently, the Royal Mail had some sort of cyber attack last week. They arent excepting any item, letter or parcel that goes outside the UK until further notice.
Incidentally i was in the post office this afternoon,a rude lady jumped the queue to send her packet to the US. Only to be told "bring it back in a few days" . Instant karma.
You could still use other companies ie Fedex,UPS. They have no issues.

Yes, I tried to post a packet to France on Friday and again today, to no avail. A pain, but it will be sorted out in due course.

I have 2 lots on hold, but I am happy to wait rather than chance losing them.

I received a parcel from the UK yesterday (Sydney, AU). It was posted about a week ago.

Does anyone have and update in this regard? It seems strangely quite about the matter in the media.

From BBC report last night :

Quote:
Royal Mail restarts limited overseas post after cyber-attack

Royal Mail has restarted the export of parcels from a backlog, and will accept new letters for overseas, as it tries to recover from a cyber-attack.

Parcels that have already been processed will start to be moved in "limited volumes" the firm said.

But no new parcels should be submitted for now, it said.

No joy trying to post to Greece today. The guy in my small local PO thought this may well last until Monday, but as I have a couple of domestic packages to go tomorrow, I'll take it down with me and try again then. Mike

Accepting printed material today for overseas, but still not anything requiring customs documents (ie large letter or bigger). Mike
