Default "Lookin' out my back door"

These excellent formation and unit signs have just returned to UK after, probably, seven decades in the United States. Those of you who are CCR fans will recall the line, "Just got home from Illinois....." Couldn't have put it better myself and very many thanks to Jack. Mike

Default Lookin

Mike,

For those of us not so well versed in either music or FS, please can you identify the badges you have posted, and who is/are CCR? I remember CCS 'tap turns on the water'

Thanks, Stephen.

The latest issue of The Formation Sign Journal of the Military Heraldry Society which has just been published includes an article on these signs and identifies their manufacturer, a company which seems to have made a wide variety of these high quality woven signs for the British Army - and possibly for the Free Polish Forces, the Royal Navy and the Air Defence Cadet Corps.

And an outstanding article it is too. I was particularly interested in the example of the very large order placed for signs for 15 (S) inf Div. This formation was famous (notorious) for stressing its "Scottishness" in every way possible - such as getting members of non-Infantry attached Arms and Services to wear the Tam o'Shanter. So it doesn't surprise me that their GOC pressed for really classy looking woven signs (the rare printed signs are pretty scruffy looking items), but conventional embroidered signs seem to have been widely worn.
