Jerry
They look to me like the Devon Constabulary cap badge worn until they merged into the Devon & Exeter Police in 1966, which then merged into the current Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in 1967: as Fawlty Towers was set in Torquay that would be a logical choice if they didn't/couldn't use the current badge (they probably wear baseball caps anyway ). The shape and even Royal cypher in the centre are very like the RE badge from a distance. All the best Graham

Agreed Graham, it would also make sense for the location of Fawlty Towers

RE "Police" Cap Badge
This RE cap badge was on a Policeman's hat in Coronation Street (a long way way from Devon & Cornwall) in an episode in March 2010.
Perhaps a theatrical costume department has a supply? Tim

Quote:
The film it was based on was in London I believe. The id number on the roof of the car is 10 which is Northumbria Police. The car markings are similar to the Metropolitan police.

CLOCKWISE - film 1986
John CLEESE starred in the film "CLOCKWISE" were he also thrashed his car-see below
The car driven cross-country trip to the Headmasters' Conference was a blue 1970 Morris 1100 MkII [ADO16]. It is basically the same car used in Fawlty Towers (1975), with a different paint job. Both cars are BMC 1100s, but the version in Fawlty Towers (1975) was a 'Countryman', a small estate wagon (station wagon). The car in Clockwise (1986) is a saloon (sedan). The film was made in various locations in the UK. Also there is a lot of "cross over" with Fawlty Towers. I'll let you off Phil.
