I was issued with my Welsh Guards khaiki beret in Munster (4th Guards Brigade) along with our DP Combats in 1971 prior to our first posting to Northern Ireland. The Welsh Guards where the first Bn to wear DP in Northern Ireland.

Ive checked a couple of photos and we wore GM or Staybrite cap badges on that tour. I also know we where wearing the cloth badge as shown by 1978. My problem is I cant remember when we actualy changed over (sorry)

Brian Davis contributed this piece to The Formation Sign, Journal of the Military Heraldry Society in January 1987. It suggests that the cloth badge was first worn in January 1977.
