North Yorkshire Regiment
Television drama series ‘Privates’ first shown in 2013 currently showing on BBC TV about the last National Service intake in 1960 features the fictional North Yorkshire Regiment. Filmed at Ballykinler Northern Ireland.
Seen so far: Cap badge appears to be a Coldstream Guards rose from the obsolete anodised shoulder title set. Cloth embroidered white on red NORTH YORKSHIRE shoulder title worn on both upper arms. White on blue/black ‘Yorkshire Rose’ with yellow and green details formation badge worn on both arms. Tim

A Benny Hill beret but without a blue over white hackle - what a refreshing change.

Benny Hill was perhaps the only one to wear this sorry bit of headgear properly.

There is an episode on Youtube. Can't really say I thought much of it however.

Just to be clear, I am not recommending viewing the series which is only five parts. It is pretty dire like many dramatic interpretations of the British Army!
I am simply recording the fake or made up insignia used by the Television production company costume department as no doubt NORTH YORKSHIRE shoulder titles etc will appear on the collectors market at some point! See my album for badges used in film and TV. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=2439 Tim

When you get VC’s found in Store sheds and Regimental Colours carried by privates you can’t help but agree with Tim’s assessment of the programme mind you I liked the Braddock VC comics when I was about 8.
But rather like the Kings Fusiliers items that have turned up from time to time it’s good to record these things for future collectors. P.

The badges were specifically made for the production.

As to the berets... reminds me of the proviso added to the titles of the Ian Carmichael classic "Privates Progress": "The service caps issued for use in this film are intended to be worn by imaginary personnel only. Others who find themselves well-fitted should regard it as purely coincidental." |
