Kings own Royal Captain ?
I think this is a captain of the Kings Own Royal, but there is no wording under cap or collar badges. Is this because he is an officer? Or could he be a university School? He seems to have Weymouth links as the reverse of the card gives a list of names of Weymouth secondary pupils who paid the ultimate price. Perhaps he was a school master. Forgot to add he has a letter 'C' under his collar badge.

I think it was in 1936 that OSD badges "lost" the lettering, one reason for justifying the removal of the lettering being that at that time Othrr Ranks collar badges didn't have it.

Ok. Leigh. Thanks for that. Any idea what the letter 'C' denotes?

I didn't notice the "C" (thought it was an eyelet).
Cadet unit then? |

Could be. I know I've seen a similar card with a letter 'T' in the same place which I took to mean Territorial

He is a teacher and a Captain in (I think) the Weymouth Grammar School Cadet Corps
Their badge was a running lion, no scroll below. Could be predecessor of Weymouth College OTC cap badge? Dont know. regards

No it was not an OTC badge . The officer presumably has previous service with the Kings Own or Leics TA and kept the badges but with the C for cadet on the lapels. - no I am wrong - see post below.

I think we are mixing up Weymouth schools
1. Weymouth Secondary School Cadets are listed in 1919 Army List. The school was formed in 1913. 2. Weymouth College had the OTC which was formed in 1914 (I have found a reference to a Weymouth College cadet corps being disbanded in 1902) Separate units but one a cadet corps and one a Junior Division OTC. I have seen the photo attributed to the OTC but I too think it is the cadet corps as you suggest. The cadet corps were affiliated to the 4th TF Bn Dorsetshires but so were Sherborne and they had their own school cap badge. I have never seen a photo of a cadet to identify what cap badge they wore but you are right that the school badge was a lion so with the photo as evidence that's a new CC badge added to the list - possibly officers only but still a new one for my list. The acdte corps was still going in 1927 http://westlulworth.org.uk/news_1927.html Many thanks Last edited by Alan O; 30-06-21 at 10:59 AM. |

It could be magpie. The chap in the photo definitely had links to the secondary school though. I'll scan the back of the post card when I get the chance so people can see the list of names. Lots of interesting information here

That's the OTC not the cadet corps so it is not him.
