Jez,
The pipers wear the McDuff Tartan in their Kilts, Sash and Bagpipes.
The Gurkhas do not wear the McDuff in their headress.

No backing is worn behind the cap badge for the QOGTR etc as they wear a Kilmarnock not a glengarry.

Gents, just as a slight addition to this thread, I recently saw the attached anodised RCT cap badge on an online militaria site, with what appears to be a red felt lining/backing inserted behind the riveted frontspiece. See pics.

Anyone know anything about this at all?
