Hello Graham.
Please excuse my ignorance in this but, when you say livery, does that mean the dress of the person that worked for the estate.? it is not a military button?? Are the emblems, a lion of st mark, a ducal crown, and a coronet ?? Thank you for your help Graham. Best regards Arthur |

Defintley not a military button. far too cluttered, for one thing.
Earl Fitzwilliam, not surprisingly from the name, was an Irish peer. For the period the button represents - 1876 to 1894 from the markings - it would have been worn by any of his uniformed servants, but not all his employees. So, perhaps a chauffeur, house servants such as footmen and perhaps a gamekeeper if he were uniformed. When one had a coronet and coart of arms one flaunted it, in an upper crust and under stated sort of way, of course! |
