Default unknown Firmin & sons

Hello People,
I found these on an old leather belt.
I have had a look on the G place and have drawn a blank.
They are 2.7 cms diameter.
On the back is FIRMIN & SONS LD, STRAND, LONDON
pics attached
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards Arthur

Hi Arthur

Looks like a very worn "Earl FitzWilliam" livery button: https://sites.google.com/site/livery...ied/home/crown

Graham

Hello Graham.

Please excuse my ignorance in this but, when you say livery, does that mean the dress of the person that worked for the estate.? it is not a military button??
Are the emblems, a lion of st mark, a ducal crown, and a coronet ??

Thank you for your help Graham.
Best regards Arthur

Defintley not a military button. far too cluttered, for one thing.

Earl Fitzwilliam, not surprisingly from the name, was an Irish peer. For the period the button represents - 1876 to 1894 from the markings - it would have been worn by any of his uniformed servants, but not all his employees.

So, perhaps a chauffeur, house servants such as footmen and perhaps a gamekeeper if he were uniformed. When one had a coronet and coart of arms one flaunted it, in an upper crust and under stated sort of way, of course!
