Gorget patches - are worn by Officers of Colonel and above. In addition to this Officer Cadets attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst wear a White Gorget patch on each collar when in their best blue parade uniform (No 1s).
Having looked into this a little more i found out that gorget patches of various colours were worn during the 1st World War by staff officers of 2Lt and upwards in various colours. From 1921 these patches were restricted to Colonels and above. I do know that various colours are still worn and i'm sure if you wished to read through dress regs you could find more on this. A quick look at Wiki shows that around 1940 the following colours were worn. Bright Blue - Engineers. Dark Blue - Ordnance. Pale Blue - Educators. Scarlet - General Staff Duties. Cherry - Medical. Maroon - veterinary. Green - Dental. Yellow - Accountants. The most common ones seen today are the standard Scarlet - General Staff type worn by colonels and above whilst in command or staff appointments. Hope this helps a little and i'm sure others will add to this thread. Regards Steve Last edited by Ex Supt Clk RAOC; 26-03-21 at 04:09 PM. |
