RRW & R Welsh cap badge question
Hi Folks
Did the Royal Welsh continue to wear the RRW anodised cap badge for a period of time before adopting the current metal badge with additional scroll? My notes aren't very clear.... what a shock! Regards Sean |

The RRW had a bn in Bulford on the changeover and there was a delay before the new badges were available.

Sean, the only thing in my notes is that yes, it was worn until the new badge was introduced (Royal Welsh Regt began 1st March 2006). Unfortunately I dont have recorded the length of time, but one can assume a 'few months'.
What I did record was that the old RRW cap badge was worn with the new 'shaped' backing - presumably to differentiate that one was looking at a Royal Welsh soldier - the RRW had a square green backing. Not really sure if that helps. Bess |

As discussed. The R.Welsh appear to have reverted back to the green square as the RRW had, so potentially the shaped backing was a transition arrangement for OR's whilst waiting for the proper cap badge?
It would appear however that officers bullion beret badges do utilise a shaped green backing. Possibly WO's too? |

Just because I've just dug out this beret while hunting for something else - the RRW officer's bullion badge with a green square backing patch on a blue beret manufactured circa 1979 - 1985.
