Default Army Scripture Readers

Gents attached my limited ASR set. Does anyone have any other pieces to look out for?

The cap badge (on east/west lugs) is also used on the belt plate. I know there are anodised collars - which I believe, have broach pin backs.

The maroon beret came from 16 Air Assault Bde at Merville Bks, Colchester and must be fairly unique.

Do we older chaps remember a certain high end badge dealer selling these as Air Sea Rescue

' Argh tell thee wat `t Is kid they made erm in metal as the cloth ASR badges were rotting due to the salt in the sea air ' and that is a true story

Default ASR items.

This is my collection of ASR items
1st Gilding metal & white metal
2nd Anodised-no maker
3rd anodised- Firmin
4th lapel badge
5th Various cloth items
I think that the badge on the beret is a cut down version of the 1st epaulette in picture 5 but unsure.

Jerry.

Nice Jerry.
Yes I agree, the badge on the beret is a cut down subdued badge that would previously have been sewn on to an epaulette slider.

Hi

I will dig out my badge, purchased some years back. Seem to think it might have had a horseshoe fitting to it, but I may well be trusting to an (increasingly) unreliable memory...

An interesting thread.
Does the 'A' in ASR on the cap badge stand for Army, or Association?
As there are Scripture readers attached to the RAF it wouldn't be 'Army' Scripture readers.
My Great Uncle became a Scripture reader after WW1, he was previously a WO1 in the RGA.
Cheers
Chris

The full title is now - SOLDIERS' AND AIRMEN'S SCRIPTURE READERS ASSOCIATION. I think the ASR badge is a throwback to the original Army Scripture Readers but has continued in use for all. The patches in the first post show the full acronym.

Thanks Dave,
What year did they include the RAF?
Is there a Navy equivalent?
Cheers
Chris

Default ARMY SCRIPTURE READER cloth shoulder title

There is/was an ARMY SCRIPTURE READER cloth embroidered title probably for Battle Dress.

Tim,
I believe the title is shown in Hodges, so presumably for something more current. Jersey heavy wool?
