Default More of what people do !

Following on from my thread about the WVR badge converted into a walking stick badge, it would have been too expensive in the light of the final value to get the badge professionally repaired and new blades fitted but I decided to fill in the holes and try to get something approaching the original bronze finish back.

I am not too happy with the filled in holes but rather pleased with the bronze finish obtained by using a £2.75 pot of acrylic modellers paint and a small paint brush but perhaps I am easily satisfied.

Certainly a better effect than I used to get using black car spray paint

Peter,

What did you use to fill the holes with?

JT,

One of a putty like roll that you massage until it has a consistent colour throughput and it then sets solid in a few minutes. I will try and photo the packet.

That product is good, it’s just my workmanship that leaves a lot to be desired !

P.

Thank you James.

Can you trim the excess on the top to make it flush with the badge? I use that in painting miniatures and it is easily trimmed. I often file it with small modeling files but do not recommend trying to file it smooth in fear of damaging the badge further.

Terry,

Is the substance malleable enough to fashion into desired shapes/forms before it dries, or is it necessary to allow to set before doing so?

JT, The one I use can be done either way. I normally use an X-Acto knife or a single edge razor blade. I would try cutting to smooth down what you have and then you could repaint the badge. I'd sure be happy to help, but I suspect the distance does not make it cost effective! Good luck

A very kind offer, thank you. I don’t actually have any repairs pending. My query is purely out of interest.

Sounds like epoxy putty you have used Peter? That's the stuff I use.
Comes in small cylindrical pieces white on the outside slightly grey centre that turns white when you squeeze it to blend. It's good stuff.
