Default Montgomeryshire yeomanry cavalry

A lovely clear image on an officer of the MYC wearing cap and collars on a cuff-rank tunic. You can just about see the dragon on the upper buttons

He appears to be a Lt Col with a crown over a single pip.

He is a Boer war veteran but I can't find an officer of that surname on the list of QSA recipients at https://www.angloboerwar.com/name-search

Alan
could the naming, it appears to be in pencil, be the photographers?

I don't think the name is a QSA recipient.

You need a copy of this The historical records of the yeomanry and volunteers of Montgomeryshire, 1803-1908

Sadly not available as a online PDF that I can find.

It's not the author, Watkin's brother Robert as he won the DSO plus 2 MIDs.

Here is the picture of him from inside the book's fly papers.

Looking at the medals (Watkin had the CBE in 1902) it is not him either.

If the photo is circa 1908 then you may be looking for the CO after Williams-Wynn? presumably he was a Lt or Captain in South Africa. With 4 companies to choose from (31, 49, 88 and 89) that is quite a few candidates.

Thanks again Alan. I has assumed my candidate was probably too old for the officer in the pics.

I had a look at that book not cheap, glad I don't need it.

It might well have a list of all MIY officers who served in the war which would give you a list to narrow down who was a Lt Col from circa 1907-18. Bear in mind there would have been an extra 2 CO's with the raising of the 2nd and 3rd units in 1914.
41st might be able to hep you?
