Unknown button found Ontario,Canada .
Hello . We found this button in antique shop , Ontario , Canada .
9 stars in top semi-circle , same on bottom . Seems to have a somewhat off centre stamping. No contour , just flat . Back has extremely faint lettering surrounding loop . At least we think there is a makers stamp . We're not sure if it's Canadian , American or British . Any suggestions , thoughts ? Thank You . Robert. |

It is a US Rifles Militia button, listed in Albert's book (Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons) as RF28a, 20 mm, backmark may be Fine, Quality, but there are more 'quality' texts.

US Rifles button
Good Morning . Thank You btns for the information .
We were thinking of US origin for this due to the stars . Not having access to Alberts book here, could you post a date for when this button was in use ? That'd be wonderful . We thought perhaps the number of stars might coincide with the number of original US states at that time . Robert. |

In another book, written by Warren Tice, it is numbered RM190A1.
That backmark is C.& P. / New York. These buttons were imported in the 1820s and "examples are occasionally found at Civil War sites". |

Thanks btns . We'll see if we can obtain those books through our
inter-library loan once things get back to normal . They are rather expensive but I'm sure they are worth the cost . Robert. |
