Default Canadian Forces Communications & Electronics Museum

During November I was fortunate to be able to visit the CAF Communications & Electronic Museum at CFB Kingston, Kingston, Ontario. This museum has been on my "to do" list for sometime now so when an opportunity presented itself I took it. The experience was well worth it & I would recommend this museum to any collector or person who might be interested in military Communications & Electronics.

Originally established in 1963 as the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals Museum located at what was then the Vimy Barracks in Kingston. In 1968, with the integration of the Canadian Forces, the Communications & Electronics Branch was newly formed from the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, The RCAF Telecommunications branch, a Communication trade from the RCN, & two trades from the former Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers.
In 1976 the RCCS museum was renamed the Communications & Electronics Museum to reflect this new branch of the CAF.
During 1987 a project was initiated to build a new building to house & display the many exhibits in the museum & to set up new offices & archives. Work commenced on the new building in 1994 & was opened to the public in May 1996. The building has a gallery of approx. 10K square feet displaying military communications equipment and memorabilia from the 1800's to present. There is also a large vehicle display area.

So...... in this topic I will show some of the photos I was able to take during my visit to the museum.....it will be an ongoing project as time permits during this busy holiday season, so please bear with me .......

Bryan

Thanks for posting the images Bryan.
Was it indicated if the tunics were reconstructions or originals?

Thanks Bill,
I did not see any indication or labels stating that any of the uniforms/accessories were reproductions. Note the Cable Laying Waggon is a manufactured reproduction & that is indicated on the explanation sign I showed. Apparently only one original in existence.

The CEF uniforms looked pretty good to me, but I am no expert on CEF uniforms & badges as I have never really collected them! & same applies to the insignia. I would likely not be able to determine if any of the insignia on the CEF uniforms were repros.

But I do have to say that the display in the Comms museum are really well done, & I will try to post some more images soon. I have several more in the 'lineup'!

I Wish you best for the Season Bill!

Bryan

Same to you Bryan.
Reason I asked was that the sigs brassards are very "clean" for something 100 years old. The cap on the signaller in the dugout is interesting as well.

The ammunition crossbelts looked pretty new to me as well Bill, & I thought one of the peaked caps looked like an officer's cap of 2WW vintage.

I will try to get a few more shots uploaded today....

The RC Signals were also involved in providing communications in the Canadian Forestry Service in the 1920-30's:

The WRCNS uniform badges are not accurate - they should be blue badges & not gold:
