Collector's Bible
It's been a while since I've bought any cap badges so I'm out of date. Which reference books are considered essential these days? Are the Kipling & King books still the standard or should I be heading off to Amazon?

In my opinion, this forum is the best badge "book" ever available.
I sold off my few books many years ago and have never felt the need to replace them. It's all here! CB

To an extent it may depend on the particular areas you’re interested in.
There is a thread and album of the wide range of books out there (link below). I’m sure forum members can comment on the usefulness of each (degree of coverage etc.) https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ighlight=Books I’d say KK is still the ‘go to’ given the universal use of their numbering, notwithstanding the errors and omissions. Whether you go for print / online / mixture for reference material is a personal choice. For me, it’s both.

I remember when someone brought a recently published copy of K and K to a Liverpool Branch meeting of The Military Historical Society meeting, must have been in the early 1970’s,all the members were astonished.
Agreed there are many errors but let those who are without errors cast the first stone. Still waiting for a better book to be written and published. P.B.

(I think I might have been there in the Lpl Mus - in the early 70s - I probably met Peter then but not properly until in about 2005 or so and we still chat KLR badges!
First published in 1972 - I bought the 2nd (1973) edition which was very useful when I was putting my 1914 badges - a good introduction. For subsequent serious research I went to WO etc archives.
