Corps of Military Staff Clerks "Real" Repro
A lot of the discussion on the forum revolves around the various fake badges that infect the market and militaria shows.
Here is a "real" repro badge. The badge came from a WW2 vet. He told me he had it made up in theatre and wore the same for the rest of the war. It is a cast badge, rather crude. It would not fool many collectors if they saw it in a dealer's tray. However, it was the "real" thing. A different perspective on the reproduction issue. |

Hi Bill. Interesting item, like you say, wouldn't touch it in a Riker's mount or "dollar" box. But, what would be the reason to repro a common badge? That's not an "elite" unit and the ordnance service must have had a few in stock.

The worn look verifies what he told you Bill, A real keepsake i'd say.

Depending on where he served, there was no guarantee the local ordnance service stores had a replacement or could supply one in a reasonable timeframe. He may have had a replacement made from another clerk's badge after his was broken or lost. Even in a modern army, there's no guarantee that every clothing stores holds every possible badge that might be needed by a soldier on the base.
