Default Northamptonshire Yeomanry

Could a Forum expert please give me the definitive answer on which badge was worn in the beret by 1 NY and 2 NY as at 1944-45?
Was the pale blue backing worn with both variants by both regiments?
Were brass NY titles worn on BD? Or was the full title ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS worn at this period?
Many thanks, Mike

The 1st Ny wore the running horse as worn in WW1, The 2nd wore the same horse but in the title circlet. Both were worn with the blue backing on a black beret.

Thanks. Since initiating this thread I found a poor quality image of an officer of 2 NY:

Horses without circlet on rectangular backing, cloth RAC pips superimposed on regimental flash (dark blue/light blue, divided diagonally), RAC titles and AoS strip and 11 Armd Div sign (2 NY was Div Recce Regt until Aug 44).

You can just make out the red on yellow "Royal Armoured Corps" shoulder title on Tpr Joe Ekins (unmistakeable uni-brow) of the 1st NY WW2.

The 2nd NY soldier is wearing the collars common to both regiments with the issued NY badge. The First decided that they did not wish to use the badge but used a collar instead. Both had the coloured backing to their cap badges.

Mike

I suspect that in 1920 when they reduced to a single Armoured Car company they adopted the RTC badge and kept this badge until the reversion to regtl status in 1939 and the creation of the 2nd regt. The issued badge was the circlet one which was rejected by the 1st.

Hi Mike, I think the backing to the circlet was usually a blue piece of leather, the only 1st with backing that I have is a cotton based material of a darker blue than the 2nd, hope this helps. Sorry I missed you at Farnham, best wishes Mike
