Khaki University Cloth
I'm not much on cloth and am wondering about this patch.

I'm believe this is the WWII version of the insignia worn by staff instructing returning soldiers in various trades.
It is a relatively rare badge if I'm correct. Nice find. |

The Khaki U was set up in the UK at the end of the Second World War. It was a program to give service personnel university level courses while waiting to repatriate to Canada. It was set up on an egalitarian basis, and previous rank was not to be worn while in attendance at the institution. To facilitate this, the students were issued new battle dress and the Khaki U titles. In addition there were slip-ons in white on blue for different "Houses". These were named after previous Canadian Governor Generals, including Athlone, Bessborough, Tweedsmuir, Devonshire, and Willingdon.
In addition to the cloth titles, there were cap and collars, but I am not sure of the provenance for those. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/d...61e418fc72bc1e http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/d...61e418fc72bc1e

Double Canada?
Probably a stupid question, Bill, but...
Private Exler pic. shows the Devonshire 'house' slip-on on her greatcoat, but why, if she has Canada shoulder flashes on her battle dress, would she also have Canada slip-ons on the epaulettes?

I think the title on the eppaulette might be CWAC

Hi David, The tunic in her arm appears to be a battle dress, (the buckle can be seen at the bottom of the books). When enrolled in the Khaki U, she would not be allowed to wear the CWAC tunic, so I suspect the image was taken at the time she started her courses. The Khaki U was opened in September 1945, so the date appears to fit. Her CWAC tunic has the CWAC title sewn on the epaulette, and then the Canada on the sleeve. The CWAC insignia was yellow embroidered on beech brown.
Bob, This is speculation, but there is a cap badge and collars for the Khaki U, which are attributed to the CEF.

Just to add my two cents (or two pennies....) another pic showing the Khaki U title with a house title.

Thanks Wilf. Nice examples of the collars for the Khaki U. Do the collars have any maker marks?
