Default Oxford Rifles

How rare is an OR's WWII, cap badge to the Oxford Rifles? Does anyone have a spare for sale? (depending on the answer to the first question)

Not terribly rare but somewhat uncommon: probably run about $60 average.

They fall into the category of not dead common, but overpriced - Midland Regt, Edmonton Fusiliers, POW Rangers, Kent Regt, Irish Fusiliers, 15th Light Horse, 19th Dragoons, King's Own Rifles, Brockville Rifles - Usually home defence units and most converted/disbanded/amalgamated after the war.

Default Oxford Rifles Insignia

Here is a named OR'S cap and badge along with an Officer's summer service jacket with insignia. The Regiment was activated in May of 1940 and had over 1500 men all around the Woodstock,Tillsonburg, and Ingersoll with platoon sized detachments in Plattsville,Embro, and Norwich. Most of the men were "R" class recruits.they moved to Prince George BC in 1942 from Carling Heights, London as part of 16 Brigade,8th Canadian Division, serving with The Prince of Wales Rangers and the Winnipeg Light Infantry. In Aug 1944 the Brigade moved to Nanaimo BC. Some men despite their NRMA "R' Classification were conscripted and sent overseas while the bulk of the unit remained in Canada as part of Pacific Command until demobilization.

Default Badge Price..

...As Philip says the badge is usually overpriced and are fairly common in these parts at markets etc.It was actually one of the first badges I ever received when I was a young kid when my neighbour gave me his. He was an Elgin Regt member who was transfered to the Oxfords before becoming an RCR member serving in Italy and NW Europe.

I have had this coloured field service cap (CFSC) in my collection for several year and it would look much better if it were badged. BTW, Marway has a single button for such a cap but I don't know that the ORs ever wore anything other than black GS buttons.
Does anyone have a badge for sale? Also, does anyone have a photo of an Oxford Rifleman wearing a CFSC?
Clive

Default Oxford Rifles CFSC buttons..

Clive, the buttons on all the FSC from the Oxfords that I have had including the one in the photo have black plastic GS Buttons. I think there is a CFSC to the Oxfords next door at my Dad's so I,ll run over after lunch and see what buttons are on it. Off the top of my head I thought it had black painted brass GS buttons but will check...

Nice badges Mike. The officer's badges, two different patterns? Mazeas only lists the 1925 pattern.
Wete the small size collars replaced by the large ones in 1940? Or was that only for officers? IIRC, I have seen the two collars sizes in OR's pattern.

Mike,
Thnx for the images. My CFSC has the same black plastic GS buttons as shown on your FS Cap.

Default Officer's types...

Actually Bill I think there are at least 4 or 5 different Officers patterns of the 1925 type, that seems to go for the smaller 1925 type officers collars as well. The large 1940 era collars are a really scarce bird indeed.Seem to have appeared around the same time as the QVC Middlesex and Huron Officers pattern cap badge. They are beautiful quality, multi piece construction and, again are very hard to find. I,ll scan a pair for a closer look.

Default Wartime Officers collars..

...Here are some shots of the elusive large style collars. There are actually two types of these as well (both by Gaunt),one with 3 rivets and one style with two rivets.

Default Large Officers Collars

It would seem the Large Officers Collars were worn earlier since I,ve turned up this between the wars photo of the Band at Woodstock where both styles of collars are being worn at the same time...neat shot...
