Default HOME SERVICE FORCE 1982 - 1992

Hello, brought these 2 shoulder titles today (Sunday) at Farnham for the short lived "HOME SERVICE FORCE" Formed in 1982 and disbanded in 1992.
Last unit went in 1993. There is a picture on the HSF website that shows the green shoulder title but I am unable to down load it here.

Jerry, those are very nice! I am not familiar with that organization - was it a new version of the Home Guard?

Thanks for posting Jerry I always wondered if the HSF had any badges of their own.
Number 2 Company HSF was raised in 1982 at Brock barracks, Reading with 3 platoons. It was badged Wessex and trained by 2 Wessex but was not part of the battalion.
In 1984 the HSF was increased with this company becoming E Company 2 Wessex with 4 platoons at Reading, Maidenhead, Winchester and Portsmouth.
Thanks again Neil

In 1985, there was a UK wide exercise for the Home Service Force called 'Brave Defender'. I was based at Topcliffe at the time and we were employed as 'enemy', attacking key locations that the HSF were defending. We were given these yellow pin badges to wear- presumably to indicate we were part of the exercise.

Really great thread. Have got this from the 2 Wessex Defender in house publication that may be of interest.

Neil,
Thanks for posting that document as it has now identified this slip-on title from my collection which had previously been ascribed to the Honourable Artillery Company.
Clearly from the description it was for 2 Coy HSF of 2 WESSEX

This slip-on with HSF in black embroidery on dark green was possibly intended as a generic title but so far no evidence of actual wear has been found.

This is a very interesting thread which I am enjoying very much. Previously had no idea of this organization and it does seem like a more recent version of the Home Guard. So, more to learn about about and start looking for!
