Default Northamptonshire Yeomanry?

Could a resident expert please tell me what the upper badge is? And confirm that the two lower ones are NY collar badges.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

There are several different arm badges to the 3rd The King's Own Hussars, they are the ' rearing ' horse, the ' Long ' horse at just over 57mm in length and like yours, the ' small ' horse at nearly 39mm in length........

There is one depicted on the front cover of Linaker & Dine ......

Dave.

Dave,
Very many thanks - that would be definitive. While you are in the mood, could you confirm the collar badges as being Northamptonshire Yeomanry?

Sorry Mike,

It's one thing to look in a book but that doesn't make me an " expert " sadly, I only have Churchill's book on Infantry Regiment collar badges, so this time we will have to wait for the more knowing !!

Dave.

Default 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry

Guys

I thought the 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Yeomanry wore this as a cap badge? 1st Battalion in a circlet inscribed Northamptonshire Yeomanry 2nd Battalion just the horse on a blue felt disc?

That would make this cap and collars?

Regards

Paul

Default NY

The 1st NY Regt wore the pre-war cap badge, which was exactly the same as the collar badge.

The 2nd NY Regt adopted the horse within a circlet.

Post-war when the regt was re-formed the WO thought the regt should adopt the badge authorised for the 2nd Regt, however the regt held out for their old badge. They kept the horse after they became D Sqn, Inns of Court Yeo, and after they converted to a RE Sqn.

Stephen.

Yes and No!
Lt Sharpe served (and died) in A Sqn, 2 NY. Note the 2 NY flash ( a felt rectangle, divided diagonally dark blue/light blue) under the badges of rank on his shoulder straps and his beret badge.
