Default Cast Badges

Brian,
I've a considerable amount of cast Theatre made badges, which I'd be more than happy for you to use the images of! A taster of a rather scarce one is shown below!

Can you PM me your e-mail address please and I'll send them that way rather than swamp the thread!

Andy

Here is another, on the Buywyze website that has the unusual slider seen on the sand cast badges posted in the other thread. However in this case its on a proper bronze badge?

WW1 City of Westminster Volunteers scarce VTC bronze cap badge.

Default Guards Machine Gun Battalion Cast Silver Badge

This one is cast in solid silver and obviously a genuine badge has been used as the donor! I'm not sure if the GMGB ever served anywhere other than Europe?

Cool Sandcast doubts?

Whilst I am a great believer in forum ideas to promote knowledge in badge collecting, I am not too sure that this is going to be of any great benefit to newer collectors.

Having looked through my files for badges that were "locally made or sandcast" with a view to posting pictures of them on this site (I have found at least twenty and there may be others), I can stretch my mind back to the 1970's and receiving through the post some catalogues from Pakistan with illustrations of British badges (Volunteers, WWI, RND) all were "sandcast" and no doubt there were many more not illustrated.

Few, if any of the Volunteer or RND ever served further east than France whilst wearing cap badges and I would think that any cap badge that is shown on this thread or album needs to be justified as to serving in any area where "locally made or sandcast" badges could have been made.

Laurie Archer had this summed up in his chapter on restrikes in K&K.

Rob

Two more for consideration. The Hawke Battalion RND probably falls in to the category mentioned by Rob above.

Some other cast Irish regiment badges, will have a look as I think I might have a few others. Are Queens Crown badges of interest ?
