Military Police
Looking for some advice as I am trying to expand my collection of Military Police cap badges to include Commonwealth.
Been checking around the Internet looking for info and haven't come up with much. I have the cap badge of crossed swords within the laurel wreath with the QC above in both anodised and brass forms, and an "MP" anodised shoulder title. I'm kinda stuck now on finding out what else I should be looking for. Presumably there is an MP shoulder title in Brass also, but what came before the QC badge - was there a KC version ? I read somewhere that they just wore the letters "MP" on the slouch hat. Grateful for any advice. |

There is a 1948 to 53 period brass MP badge with lugs and a KC. A cloth (bordered) AUSTRALIAN ARMY PROVOST CORPS title would also have been worn.
The QC pattern came into being after 1953 and in the 1960s would have been changed to having pins. Post 1960 there was an anodised PROVOST metal title which later became MP. As far as I know, there was no official brass MP should title. As for wearing of the letters MP on the slouch hat, I have never seen or heard about that. I think its unlikely as MPs always wear their red beret. Mick

This sounds like a Gurkha MP badge. If you use Kipling & King look at:- KK 1029 Military foot police KK 1030 Corps of Military Police EDV11R KK 1031 Corps of Military Police GVR KK 2130 -----------"---------- GV1R KK 2131 Royal Military Police GV1R KK 2132 -----------"------- E11R KK2272 Corps of Military Police GV1R in plastic These come in various metals. There are MFP, CMP & RMP shoulder titles out there some where and there are plenty of Commonwealth "MP" badges around also. KK 2092 to KK 2093 will give you the gurkha badges

Mick, Many thanks for that.
So it seems I need the version with the Kings Crown, the cloth shoulder title and the anodised "Provost" title. Much obliged. At least I know what to look for now. The reference to MP being worn on the slouch hat was found on a web site. I think it referred to way back in WW1 long before the red beret was introduced. Lokking for it again today I couldn't find it but found another reference - http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-...police-ww1.htm which also shows an "Australian Provost Corps" , and "Provost Staff" anmd another cloth one "Royal Australian Corps of MIlitary Police" that I'll have to add to my wants list too. @engr9266. - I know the Gurkha badge. Have these in with my British rather than commonwealth stuff. I've got just about all the British stuff, and titles, except for the Blue Cloth Helmet plates, which for now, I'll just have to dream about ! Attached pic of the ones I have. Thanks again ! |

No worries.
I'd also be careful of any info you get from that site - it has many errors and omissions. Mick
