My opinion is they are both fakes.

Maker on the first and everything about the second says fake to me.

regards

Agree both fake badges unfortunately, both have all the main fake/repro features, if you have a quick search of both badges on the forum that should explain all, but as a quick reference the maker mark on the Artist’s is not one associated with other rank badges and the dodgy heads/ faces of Mars & Minerva and the Middlesex originals have a distinctive flatter scroll and the fixings are different to the rear.

Kevin,

Here is a lovely example of an original 'Public Works' badge, against which you might like to compare your own:

Gents,

Thanks for your advice and pointing me in the right direction. Never liked either one and now I know why, sadly I have quite a few more to post with reservations.

Thanks again.

As everyone has said both fakes.

The Artists is from the same die as the fake in the Martin Marsh repro catalogue. Also Marples & Beasley sliders are in my belief only found on repro OR metal cap badges.
