Unknown military badge
Hello. I am wondering if anyone can help me identify the hat and collar badge that I have attached.
The badges appears to be made out of copper or bronze. The Latin motto is VOX CLAMANTIS IN DESERTO which in translation is "A voice of one crying in the wilderness". I have no idea what unit these badges belong to. I was told it was a Canadian unit but as there is no maple leaf in the design I have my doubts. It could be British or Commonwealth, I just don't know. I do not think that it is US I do not own these badges and the attached pics are as best as I have at this time. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Not a British badge that I’m aware of, has a Canadian look to it for me also , I’m sure others will confirm for you.

Same badge appeared on GWF in 2007 , unfortunately no one was able to identify who it belonged to.

Couple of suggestions
Dartmouth College - Their motto is the same . Dartmouth Rifles - pre Halifax Rifles : "MGO of 16 May 1860, (Royal Gazette, Halifax, N.S., Wednesday 2 May 1860, Vol. LIX No. 19, p.134). Formed from six existing independent rifle companies authorized on the following dates: 'No. 1 Rifle Company' (Scottish Volunteer Rifle Company at Halifax, 13 December 1859), 'No. 2 Rifle Company' (Mayflower Rifles, 19 December 1859), 'No. 3 Rifle Company' (Irish Volunteer Rifles, 23 December 1859), 'No. 4 Rifle Company' (Dartmouth Rifles, early 1860), 'No. 5 Rifle Company' (Halifax Rifles, 23 December 1859), and 'No. 6 Rifle Company' (Chebucto Greys, 15 December 1859).

Found an interesting article from October 1 1917 :
400 MEN IN DARTMOUTH BATTALION THIS YEAR R. O. T. C. Also Formed at Brown under Major Abbot to Train Men for Service. "The Dartmouth corps will not wear the regulation army uniform, but will be uniformed distinctively, with badges on the hat and collar." "The war department has sent the college 200 rifles, bayonets and scabbards for the use of the Corps."
