Large 17th Lancers badge
Has anyone any ideas on this oversize 17th Lancers badge. It is 5.5X4.5cm (only slightly larger than normal) and looks to have 3 Victorian lugs?

Large 17th Lancers badge
I have a similar badge with lugs E-W and the top one missing, mine came from a collection of old badges, many of which were Victorian, so I think this badge was probably an early Chad (arm badge) due to the three lugs.
Until now I have never seen another one, where did you acquire this badge? Rob |

17th
there is a picture of RSM Clark 17L wearing a larger Motto as a NCO arm badge taken from the 1846 czapka plate its a different skull. I do believe some large skulls like these were used in the.50,s 60,s and 70,s. On pouches for the 100th balaclava anniversary and on shabraches on the musical ride.

Hi Rob,
Interesting you have one too. I bought mine at Aldershot Military Fair in 2001 for £15. Hi Mac, Thanks for your info. Interesting about different shaped skull - by the lugs, I think mine is an old badge. Regards Denis |
