In the case of this regiment, their mark was normally engraved into the die from which their badges were cast, although, it was normally applied directly to their collar badges.

interesting to note that with the Ludlow badges, you get a version with pierced crown and lion and one with just the pierced crown.
I would be very happy to add a Ludlow to my collection.

Hello Jerry,
I think that the most important thing to bare in mind, is simply that these are wartime, die cast officers badges, the badges shown in post one and four come from different dies. The example in post one, to the best of my knowledge was only cast in silver, however, the badge in post four was also made in white metal as well as silver, they all had the typical copper lugs in common with other officers badges made by this company. Stunning badges gents, I'm pretty sure I have a couple by this maker. I will see if I can add a few pics to this thread for comparison.
Cheers

Ludlow
Strange to think that, despite providing some of the best quality badges, to my recollection Ludlow never had WO contracts again post-war. There must be a background story to that somewhere.

Just as a thought wouldn't they be still private purchases rather than supplied items for officer's also available to OR' s if they wanted to buy them from the Taylor's etc.

An officer certainly paid for everything he wore.
