Hello all
A little about myself I'm 51 but 15 in the head or so my wife says !!. My reason for joining the site is to learn so please be nice.
I love military history etc so what better place to be.
My big thing is a toy...Action Man I have over 170 dressed figures from the 1960s to 1984 I also have a small collection of military bits. Helmets bullets that kind of stuff.
I also have a.number of medals that belonged to family members and doing the research is one thing I love but it's not easy that's what got me here.

Thanks for reading and first question how do you put pictures up ?
Carl.

Hello Carl and welcome to the forum. If you click on reply to post, you will have a window in which you may type. At the top of that window are two lines of symbols or icons. The top line has near the centre a white “Smilie face”. Two places to the right of that is a vertical black symbol. Click on that and it will take you to a page where you may “Up-load” from you computer. Find the photo you wish to include and you’re on the way. Best regards, D.J.

Welcome-Test worked fine. I sadly mutilated my Action Man squad as I grew up, consisted of 2 painted hair hand me downs, 1 fuzzy hair solid hands, a talking commander with gripping hands, and 3 others, who may have been the slight seconds you used to get when collecting the box stars. Regards, Paul.

I got my first Action Man when they arrived in the UK - he was so fresh of the boat he had "GI Joe" stamped on his backside, his bayonet was proper dangerous hard sharp brittle plastic, not the soft bendy ones that were introduced later.
Ignoring the "dolls for boys" comments from the elders I got quite a few of the original Action Man and original Tommy Gunns with his 4th Infantry Div insignia, Para Regt smock and beret,, and "Charlie G".
The US sailor, deep sea diver, Brit, German, Aussie, WWII Grenadier Guards, RHG outfits, and all that.
Being a stickler for accuracy I bleached the dark green German uniform and dyed the tunic and trousers field grey and grey, painted the helmet, added leather soles with pinhead as studs to the jack boots.....
And then you join the army and while your attention is elsewhere your mother takes the opportunity to check if you still want them along with all the mint condition boxed Dinky military vehicles, those "horrible" American Civil War and WWII bubblegum cards and stuff and you say nah, and that's that, they're gone for good.

Some months ago I saw one of the Action Man German squaddie WWI Iron Cross Second Class "medals" for sale on ebay - as a "proper" miniature medal
The Tommy Gunn set of medal cards to collect with purchases and exchange for figurines and kit pop up for sale as "old cigarette cards".

Hello
Thanks for the warm welcome. The cost of AM has gone up and is very collectable now.
I'm used to all the jokes it doesn't bother me at all.
I'll be posting some questions soon as I'm looking into my wifes grandads service career as we have just got his papers from the mod.
Thanks Carl
