Two unknowns
1. The "circle' badge is 48mm outside diameter, lugs have a small hole possibly for a buckle. Perhaps had something in the centre as well.
2. The brass badge is 38mm wide, has a blue painted line in the middle and normal military lugs. It looks more American in style than British Commonwealth. Help appreciated. |

'Nisi dominus frustra' is an abbreviated quotation from onem of the Psalms, loosely translating as 'Without the Lord, frustration.' It is apparently the motto of the Chelsea Football Club and, I shouldn't wonder, any number of schools and religious groups, so probably not military. No idea on the other piece.

Nisi dominus frustra, is one of the mottoes of the King's Own Scottish Borderers and also the motto of Edinburgh. The motto of the City of Edinburgh was authorised to the then 25th (the King's Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot on 8th March 1832.
Derived from psalm 127:1, Nisi Dominus aedificaverit domum, in vanum laboraverunt qui aedificant eam. Nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem, frustra vigilat qui custodit eam. Which translates to: Lest the Lord build the house, in vain shall work those who build it. Lest the Lord keep the city, in vain shall work [he] who keeps watch over it.
