Default Army cap badge/pin?

Hi all,

attached below is a picture of my Great-Uncle. I have no military info on him but will try to get his service record soon. My Nan told me that her sister said that he was a Chef as he had problems with his finger/knuckle so he couldn't fire guns.

I'm hoping someone can identify the cap badge he is wearing to see if this is correct. I'm not sure. He was born in 1920 and I was told this picture was from the Second war.

Cheers, Will.

Hi Tim, thanks for your input.

It does look quite similar to the Highland Light Infantry badge but I think its different at the top... I wish I had a better picture but sadly this is all. If he was a chef I wonder why he would wear a badge like this maybe it was normal- I don't know.

Will

He could still be a cook, not badged as Army Catering Corps but to the unit he belongs rather than is attached to.

All regiments had their own cooks until 22nd March 1941 when the Army Catering Corps was formed and all the cooks were transferred into it. The bit about him being unable to fire a rifle sounds odd, I doubt he would have been accepted for military service under those circumstances.

Cheers everyone, seems like this is likely the case.

I have most of his non-military information so I'll try to get his service record and update this thread when I find out! Probably easier than making you guys play a guessing game I just wasn't sure if it was an common badge that was easy to identify hence why I asked.

The image is another posted link.
After a while it will disappear and the thread will become useless.
