Cousin Herbert
An unidentified soldier of 4 Aust Div, AIF. The card has written on the back:
Taken March 23rd 1918. Dad, Cousin Herbert, Mother From: Mrs LL Dines, 51 Littlewood St, Rothwell, Kettering, Northants, England. To: 26386 Pte CK Dines, East Surrey Regt, 55th POW Coy, BEF, France As far as I can judge the shades of grey of his colour patch would indicate either 49 Bn or 51 Bn of 13 Inf Bde. A more positive ID would be very welcome. Mike AIF_Cousin Herbert.01.jpg |

There was one incomplete record in the Aus archives, for "H. Dines" might be worth further research to see if it's a match.Sadly, seems the papers were not really filled in properly, but worth looking at as a possibility, perhaps?

Thanks. That's an interesting document - RHA (Imperial Reserve) and enlisted in 2nd Military District in Australia on 11 Aug 14 or 8 Nov 14? Mike

So he enlisted just seven days after the declaration of war in London. Mike

Possibly 50 or 51 Bn Mike.
Imperial reservists went back to UK in drafts to serve with their original regiments. Keith |
