Default KDG 1938-49

Hi Guys, can anyone explain what happened in 1938 when the double headed eagle badge was reinstated after the star for the KDG. The badge that was sealed in 1938 according to K&K was a double headed eagle in gilding metal, then in 1949 the silver version of the double headed eagle was sealed. I have seen evidence of silver ones in service long before 1949 albeit mainly Officer badges, which would indicate that the gilding version was not particularly admired by the Regiment? I’m also unsure what collar badges would have been worn with the gilding double headed eagle badge.any ideas from KDG experts?

Regards Ian
