Arty Civilian Pin ?
okay BRITISH comrades give me the poop on this little gem that showed up over here in the colonies. PIN back type normaly found in EDWARD V11 type stuff and marked GAUNT LONDON says ROYAL ARTILLERY COMFORTS

Paul, firstly the picture is atrocious!
However this would be a RA Comforts fund badge, sold in aid of supplying comfort luxuries for the troops at the front. Whether real or a fake I cannot tell from that pic. I think it should have a buttonhole fastener to the rear but I cannot see anyone going to the trouble of faking this badge so I'll go with the pin fastener. £5.00 worth at best. |

sorry about the pic it is a pin back. What time period is it being KC WW1 OR SLIGHTLY EARLIER ?

Mid WW1 until armistice. There would have been no reason to send comforts to the troops before the 1st war. South Africa was too early. Troops in India didn't need comforts! Comfort funds where popular once everyone at home realised that the war wasn't going to plan and be over by Xmas 1914. The longer the war, the more the stories of troops suffering and all the worried mums, wives wanting to make life at the front more comfortable.
Remaining stocks could easily also have been sold in WW2. |
