I'm very dubious about the very last one at Wakefield, it's meant to be senior works staff - who always wore the opened necked tunic before the early 50's general issue with tie for easy removal, but I think it's Police.

Hi HMPbadges,,
Your photo of the officer wearing sword confirms what I've said all along about the badge not having a lip.You will note that it is straight at the bottom !!
I see again that you must have included a couple of my pics.Nice photos.
Regards
Bantam.

Hi HMPbadges,,
The photo of the Chief Officer standing alone is John Boorman who was awarded the Imperial Service Medal in 1931 having joined the service in 1900 at Chelmsford.Retirering as Cheif Officer 1 at Pentonville.
His wife was also a female wardress when she met him and a photo of her is shown on the cover of Prison and Prisoners in Victorian Britain by Neil R.Storey who I believe may be a member of this forum.
Regards
Bantam.

Hi HMP Badges
Nice to see the indoor class photo of the civilian dressed Wakefield 'screws' (a term used to separate us from the Leyhill 'officers')!
What year was it as mine was taken in 1979.

I was at Love Lane myself and I'm well aware that if you was at Aberford Road you was a Screw, Newbold Revel - an Officer. My dad was at Leyhill in 1965 and he never mentions what they were known as there - possibly gentlemen lol

Now looking back at some of the photo's I posted, I think only the black and white ones that properly show badges and insignia up close should be shown, as it helps us find things out as me and Bantam have seen. So not so much general old Prison stuff. What do you all think?

Hi HMP Badges
Thanks for the coloured Wakey photo.
I am now 99.9% certain this was the same Aberford Road 1979 course. As it depended on what the initial letter of your surname was as to what class your were in, I think your friends were around the G area.
Certainly some of those faces seem very familiar indeed!
Peter

Hi HMPBadges
Not sure about a Ghurka but the 2 standing in the rear rank top left and the PO on the right in the colour photo are definate faces from the past. Rather than put names in public can you drop me a PM?
Thanks
Peter
