South African Constabulary, fretted badge
Hello,
Here are two badges, one solid, the other fretted. Note position of the lugs. Comments welcome on when, where, and who wore them, thanks. Cheers, John |

To add to my question,
Did officers and men wear specific badges, or were these badges worn by all? Thanks, John |

No idea but it's a nice badge. Is it silver?

Hi Alex,
Thanks, I suspect it is silver, going by the black tarnishing on back. Cheers, John |

There were definitely officially badges for Officers, Warrant Officers and other ranks. I have an article on these somewhere. I feel that the silvered badges were most likely officers, but don't remember them in the article. If I remember correctly gilt was for officers, bronze for WO's and white metal for other ranks.
