Silver/ Silver Plated, Suffolk Officers Capbadges.

Hi All,
I have come across a couple of Suffolk badges, one is maker marked, JR Gaunt London and also with a "P" which indicates silver plate, apparently, the other is said to be silver, but totally unmarked. They both have loops, not blades, is this correct for Suffolk "silver" officers capbadges? I would really appreciate opinions on these, before I do anything rash, the pictures could be better, I'm afraid.

Many thanks, both of these badges are now on their way to me, but what I did wonder was, do all of these silver officers capbadges have the loop fittings? I also believe that officers had to buy all of their own kit, was there any significance in the choice of silver capbadges, rather than the normal bronzed versions, or was this just optional for any officer?

Bronze was for Officers Service Dress (OSD) caps which were khaki coloured.

They are normally found with blades

Silver or Silver Plate was for undress peaked caps, usually blue.

These are usually found with loops, though not exclusively.

Ah, I see, different badges for different caps, many thanks, Simon. Andy, David Smith's website is called British Army Badges, please don't buy any 12th of Foot Shako Plates, I'm hoping to get all of those, if he doesn't sell them first!

Are you going to go for Volunteer Battalions also, if so good luck because they can be an absolute minefield too.

No Keith, I'm not planning on getting into the Volunteer Battalions as well, my 12th of Foot glengarry badge arrived today, and the doubtful pedigree of this badge means that it will, I fear, have to remain in a small collection all of it's own. I was thinking that several of David Smiths, 12th of Foot shako plates, will keep it company, nicely! One or two more badges, and several buttons have yet to arrive, and when they do, I'll need to give it a miss, for a little while, whilst I replenish the coffers. When normal service is resumed, item one on the agenda will be a centrepiece for the collection, and I will attach a picture of a Suffolk helmetplate, that should fit the bill, a treat, if it's still available after Chrimbo.
