Cloth Shoulder Badge, Bromley with Red Cross
I was going through my father in laws military accoutrements the other day and came across the attched shoulder patch. I have no idea who it represent other then I feel it is from England. He joined the war effort from Canada, 17 RCA, in 1939 and traveled to England landing in Gourock, Scotland. They then traveled to Aldershot for training. He was in Africa, Italy and Belgium as well.
If anyone can identify this badge for me it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Im quite sure it’s a nurses (civilian) badge from Bromley, in Kent.
The main hospital for Bromley during WW2 was Orpington, which has an interestibg history! http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/no...rst_World_War/

It would appear I may hav3 been premature in making this link.
The Orpington Hospital was a WW1 Canadian Military Hospital, and I cannot find other records regarding WW2. Is there any chance there was a WW1 Canadian Soldier in the Family? Otherwise - perhaps a coincidence?

I have been asked about this badge before as I have an interest in Home Front items and happen to live in the London Borough of Bromley.
Whilst I cannot provide an exact identification I don't think this has anything to do with the British Red Cross. The style is similar to items produced for the American Red Cross - like those shown - especially as even on khaki battledress the BRCS wore blue backed cloth shoulder titles. A quick internet search shows that there are two US Bromleys - Bromley, Alabama and Bromley, Kentucky. I think it's more likely this belongs to one of those two. Jon |

From memory, they do have a display and a number of photographs there. I’ll do my best to pop in there this week and take some photos. Who knows what turns up!

I visited the Canada Wing at Orpington hospital today. There were no obvious clues, no photographs of anyone wearing this patch.
Should you wish to enquire further the fundraiser and organiser of the Canada Wing display is contactable by email; josie.aston@gmail.com

Did you manage to go to the local Church /Graveyard as a lot of the Canadian boy`s that succumbed to their wounds are buried in there. I used to have a list of them, but i`m afraid it was thrown out during a clearout.
