Shorted lived 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers XXIX Title
Hi Guys,
Here's a short lived 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers XXIX Title that was worn on their barracks patch. Worn only for a short period of time around 2015 or so before being told to cease wearing it by higher HQ. Some history about it: The Fighting Twenty Nine Ride Again! In 1899 a Squadron of the Lancers sailed to England to take part in combined training. On the way home from England the troop ship stopped in at Cape Town, South Africa, and our soldiers became the first of any soldiers in the Commonwealth to volunteer for the Boer War. Over the course of three weeks they managed to scrounge enough equipment for a composite troop of 29 soldiers to be formed. These 29 attached themselves to the British units fighting at the time, and earned a solid reputation as fighting soldiers. They were soon known as "The Fighting Twenty-Nine". To honour this legacy, the Regiment is recognising those soldiers who perform at the highest standard. Those who are worthy will have the honour of wearing the "XXIX" badge on their shoulder patch. Eligibility to this exclusive group will be reviewed quarterly to ensure only those who are currently operating at the highest levels will wear the badge. The first rollcall will be made on 8 July, and those eligible will be presented with the badge on a Regimental parade. Enjoy! Mick
