We met someone as Bosleys decades ago who had just got engaged. His fiancee was with the guy - instead of an engagement ring she had bought him an example of this pattern.

A rare and original badge.
This example has a replacement, different to normal, brooch attachment. Also an interesting story as to how it was purchased from the Cairo manufacturer by the original owner. Certainly the rarest of all the Long Range Patrol - Desert Group badges.

Would this be a world record for a cap badge ? Does anyone know what the most money ever achieved at auction is for a cap badge and what was it?

I have the black tankers beret that belonged to the same officer who supposedly privately purchased the badge. |

The NZ thread, which unfortunately is missing a number of replies when the forum was reset.

I can see comparisons in this thread with the LRDG thread that is running at present, especially having just read the old thread that discusses this actual badge and its rear fittings.
I have no knowledge of them but enjoy the differences of opinion. regards

It was auctioned with about 12 other lots to the same chap, of which I got about 7 - what they do not say is that the badge had paperwork and photos with it, tying together all the other lots attributed to the guy (CSM / Capt G Barnes MM & Bar). It is estimated only about 50 examples of the badge would have been made, so it is particularly rare, especially in attributed mint condition. Probably only a specialist collector would seek one. I did here a 1er Fusilier Marine Commando badge had sold for £9,000 some time ago but again with great attribution. It is becoming necessary to be very selective. That said, I do know the price of other examples of the rare expensive 2 SBS badge did rise significantly when the new price was set. They rarely come to market, let alone with attribution. This is the trend with high end badges - but we all hope to find them at more affordable prices, and bargains are still out there. All the best Mike |
