Default Border Regiment - No Honours

I picked up this beautiful little SP Officers' forage cap badge recently, however does anyone know if it's a pre-South Africa VB or a Militia badge?

Thanks

Thank you GB,

Much appreciated. I can understand the attraction of Border badges.

Yes, nice badge there Keith. I just picked up one too. An OR's with no honours.

It's outside my area of WW1, but as you say there's something about the Border regiment. Plus it was going for a song.....

Regards

Simon.

Keith,
I'll go with that.
Their OSD collar badges are top quality.

Yes I saw that, I got the KRRC militia officers busby badge and an AA Buffs the same night for peanuts. Sodding HMRC and Royal Mail ruined it again.

I used to have the Border badge but yours looks a better strike, however I'm not 100% sure it actually existed in this form as I've had one with Honi Mal.... around the centre. Without digging out the books they may have had more than one Militia battalion who wore different badges but it needs investigating.

Yes, I saw the busby badge too. But I really only stay with OR's. Plus if I remember it was damaged. But I think easily fixed.

My only concern at first on this one, is it being on a slider. I thought it would have been lugged only.

Simon.

Nice collar with the Honi Soit motto. I would expect the cap badge to have the same motto.

Lew Shotton has a very nice HPC - which again has the Honi Soit motto and red felt retaining bar. This again supports my opinion that any cap badge should have this motto and not the completely blank one.

This is from a well known faker.

I have yet to see ne of these that I would regard as anything else than fantasy.

Alan,
I am happy with mine, it does seem to have a footprint of the motto if you look carefully, I wander if on some badges it was removed purposely.
The badge you show I agree is a fake based on the void around the dragon also the very poor definition of the lions.

Not to mention the absence of the brass trip on the back to hold the red felt.

Returning to this fantasy militia badge, I have only found one attributed militia cap badge which is K&K 1221 and that has a central motto.

The faker who made the fantasy badge deleted too much! The absence of the backing strip to hold the red felt backing (mentioned in K&K text) and the use of lugs all scream fake to me.
