Default 2nd Armoured Car Company, Tank Corps

Ultimately there were five Armoured Car Companies in the Tank Corps during the 1920s and this is the pugaree flash for the 2nd Armoured Car Company.

Did all five Companies use the same colors but with different numbers? I am particularly interested in the 5th Armoured Car Company which was posted to China.

I assume you have asked Mons Military Antiques that it is ok to use their image?

regards

Hi, Jim MacDonald has or is about to publish a book on ACCs and I'm sure it will have the information you seek, Mike

3 AC Coy RTC ST.jpg

5 AC Coy RTC.jpg

Two more examples, presumably all Armoured Car Companies.

The 3AC is indeed clearly 3 Armoured Car Company but the single number examples may also be the Battalion ones, used when they were in Egypt for example, though the ACCs also used the single numbers. There were twelve armoured Car Companies altogether. A larger shield shape was also used by the Battalions.

By amazing coincidence I took this picture on Sunday in Cobbaton Combat Museum near Barnstaple with the intention of asking on here what it was.

Hi, to answer Blue Puttee's original question the 5th wore both the single black number and then the 5AC in white whilst in Egypt. Only the units in Egypt wore the white "number AC". Units in India and ME other than Egypt had the single black number. Hardinge, I'm intrigued by the battalions wearing shields can you explain? could they be sports badges? best wishes Mike

Hi, I recently got hold of some early Tank Corps Journals, in the July 1920 journal it states the 5th Armoured Car Company wore a green and white slip-on, presumably only whilst they were posted in Ireland. Incidentally it also states that the 2nd Tank Battalion only wore a yellow whistle lanyard, not a slip-on, best wishes Mike
