I would welcome your opinions on this much faked badge. Is this a right un or have I been stung?

It doe snot compare well to genuine badges shown on the forum. if yous erach in the \infatry forum under Cardiff you will see some genuine examples. Ironically this is one badge where the genuine ones have poorer reverse definaition than the die struck copies.

Thank you for that. I had my doubts which is why I posted the question.

It's a modern copy I'm afraid and it's not Cardiff Pals either. It's a copy of the 16th Batt'n collar badge.

An easy way to tell at a glance is from the seahorse’s head. A sunken ‘zombie’ eye = common fake. On genuine 16th Bn collars the seahorse head is a smooth strike with no recess.

There are other subtle differences like the goats horn shape, dragon’s wings and flag etc but it is the eyes that stick out (or rather in) for me.

Kevin has a couple wonderful genuine examples here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=47677

Cheers,
Luke

Luke.

That's a nice frame with a pair of collars, but the real gem is that cap badge, a lot lot scarcer than the collars.

Hi Jonathan,

Wish I could take credit but the album is part of Kevin’s (41st’s) collection.

Completely agree the cap badge is exceptionally rare, never seen another. The cloth 38th division insignia is remarkable too.

Cheers,
Luke
